Depression Therapy for Adults
You may feel exhausted, disconnected, or unable to enjoy things you once loved. Even small tasks can feel overwhelming. Whether you feel sad, numb, or irritable, you don’t need the right words to reach out for support.
I’m John W. Wilson, PsyD, an Atlanta-based licensed clinical psychologist providing virtual psychotherapy for adults, including those experiencing depression.
Understanding Depression
Depression can affect your mood, energy, relationships, and ability to manage everyday responsibilities. It may involve sadness, but it can also feel like emptiness, irritability, or losing interest in things that once mattered.
Experiences may include:
-
Persistent low mood or feelings of hopelessness
-
Loss of interest or enjoyment
-
Low energy or feeling slowed down
-
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
-
Changes in sleep or appetite
-
Guilt, worthlessness, or withdrawal from others
These experiences can have different causes. An assessment can help clarify what is happening, consider medical or medication-related contributors, and identify appropriate treatment options.

How Depression Treatment Can Help
Psychotherapy can help you explore patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating that may contribute to depression. My approach draws from humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic models, guided by your concerns and goals.
Humanistic work emphasizes your capacity for choice, personal meaning, and growth. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) examines connections among current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Psychodynamic work explores how earlier experiences, relationships, and recurring emotional patterns may shape your present life, including what emerges in the therapeutic relationship.
Depression treatment may involve psychotherapy, medication, or both, depending on your needs, preferences, and symptom severity. When medication is appropriate, it is managed by a prescribing clinician.
